Summer Time Shark Fishing Trips

It's that time of year again! Time to hunt the sharks! Many people don't know this, but shark can be GOOD eating!

Here, in the Gulf of Mexico, large sharks such as Great Whites are rare and few between. However, you can easily find a Hammerhead, Bull, Tiger, Lemon, Atlantic Sharp Nose, Black Tip, or Bonnet shark swimming the warm waters of Fort Myers Beach during summer season. You normally won't find them unless you're chumming the waters with bait, which is exactly what Luck o' The Irish Fishing Charters is great at doing!

We love this time of year because shark fishing is a great sport. Hooking into a shark is such a fulfilling feeling, and reeling it in is twice the satisfaction.

We offer morning, day and night time shark trips at Luck o' The Irish Fishing Charters. You name the time you want to go, we'll try and make it happen. We offer a flat rate of $100/hr with a maximum of four anglers per boat. You'll get a chance to see the different species of shark that Southwest Florida has to offer in the back bay and near the shoreline of Fort Myers Beach.

Shark fishing is the only style of fishing that we use chum for. Some of the bait we'll use is Bonita and Pin fish. You'll have the opportunity to keep your shark (within legal perimeters) or choose to just catch-and-release, if you prefer not to keep it for dinner.

Shark fishing is a growing sport, which means slots fill up pretty quickly for us this time of year. To book your trip in a timely manner, don't delay! Schedule your fishing charter today by following this link or calling/texting Capt. Rich at 239.333.9858.

After you hook into your shark, you may enjoy using one of our own recipes for Shark Steaks:

Spiced Shark Steak

Ingredients

  • 3 (8 oz) Shark steaks (our captains will filet your catch for you)

  • 2 tbs olive oil

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Everglades Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoons chili powder

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

Directions

(Prep time: 35 minutes, Cook Time: 40 minutes, Total Time: 75 minutes)

  1. Rinse the shark steaks and trim off any skin.

  2. Saute the minced garlic and chopped onion in olive oil for 5 minutes, until tender.

  3. Pour the onion and garlic into a bowl and mix together with the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and chili powder to form a paste. Spread an even layer of the mixture on both sides of each shark steak. Place them on a plate and cover. Allow to marinate in the refrigerator at least 30 minutes.

  4. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

  5. Arrange the shark on a baking sheet. Cover with tin foil and bake until cooked completely through, about 40 minutes, turning the steaks over approximately 20 minutes into bake time. Remove the tin foil 10 minutes before the end of baking time.

  6. Enjoy! (Tip: Shark is paired well with yellow and Spanish rice.)
